Nuon Solar Team

Nuon Solar Team

Nuon is the principle sponsor of the Nuon Solar Team. Since 2001, Nuon has been the principal sponsor of the Nuon Solar Team. This is the sixth time that we are supporting the construction of the solar car Nuna and participation in the World Solar Challenge.

Team Nuna6

In supporting the Nuon Solar Team, Nuon wants to show as many people as possible what we can all achieve through clever use of energy for a sustainable development of society.

So, with Nuna4, we made the first step towards a real car, which runs on solar energy and is more suitable for everyday use. For example, normal car lights were fitted and the driver could sit up straight. This development was continued in Nuna5.

Nuon also wants to encourage young talent to contribute to technical renewal and a sustainable future. Nuna6 will shortly be launched.

The Nuon Solar Team

The sixth Nuon Solar Team consists of 13 students from the Technical University in Delft. They are interrupting their studies to produce the solar car. Under the leadership of team captain Pier Zonneveld, the students have already been working for nearly a year on the design and construction of Nuna6. They have done their utmost to make the new Nuna better looking, faster and more frugal than ever before.

The Nuon Solar Team has won four races in a row and in 2009 came second. With each version, Nuna gets faster and more compact. This year the team is back; the gold medal must come home to Delft!

World Solar Challenge

World Solar Challenge

The World Solar Challenge is a biennial race across Australia for cars powered by solar energy. More than thirty teams from all around the world are taking part. The race crosses Australia from north to south over a distance of more than 3,000 kilometres, from Darwin to Adelaide. The World Solar Challenge has been part of the Global Green Challenge since 2009; alongside the race for solar cars there is, for example, also a race for electric/hybrid cars over the same distance.
